Amy richardson
Amy Richardson is a multidisciplinary artist based in Limerick city. She studied painting in the Limerick School of Art & Design and went on to study Interactive Media in the University of Limerick. Her works are a combination of painting and photography.
Following a recent move, the artist was confronted with the weight of their possessions, each item holding nostalgia, sentimentality, and inviting introspection. This recent move also comes amidst a housing crisis – leaving the artist in uncertain rental situations & unsure if they will one day own their own house/apartment. Some of the artifacts have come from the artist’s childhood home & have followed the artist through various moves. With each move, the artist questions if they should shed some of their belongings, sometimes feeling trapped and crowded by them - frustrated with the process of packing and unpacking, undecorating and then to re-decorate a new space for an unknown period. Painting on found & contrasting fabric backgrounds the artist tempts to evoke that crowded feeling and the contrast of their possessions against each new rented space. Each painting allows the artist to explore their relationship with a particular artifact, allows them to preserve it and gives it a destination when the artist does not know where it may ultimately end up.
