I paint because my Soul demands it.
I use painting as a methodology to ponder philosophical questions and the ‘bigger’ meaning of the self, exploring concepts like love, hope, death… and my reflections become actionable. At their deepest level they become a personal diary of (who) “I Am” .
Through an established routine and art practice I use the language of painting to describe my thoughts. Multiple abstract squares become a visual story, referencing (big) questions of humanity and spirit.
Whilst I study the philosophy of life and often describe concepts of human nature such as love, kindness, and happiness, a certain childlike obsession with enchanted worlds keeps the work playful.
Using obscured layers, partially revealed shapes, and translucent marks, the paintings have various layers. Interjections and lines can act as both a separation and a threshold, and the paintings become an alternative reality for me, almost a portrayal of a dream that I know.
My work will often have reference to liminal spaces, paths bridges, traces, residue and temporality versus the infinite, I create enchanted worlds and invite the idea of sacred spaces and ritual into the everyday.
