Carey Long
Carey Long is an visual artist, independent curator, and cultural event producer based in Limerick City. She has been working from spacecraft studios since graduating from sculpture & combined media in Limerick school of art & design (2018). Carey is a sculpture and installation artist creating work primarily from plant life and found objects.
Carey has been developing her new body of work ‘the importance of feeling smallness’ which is about that feeling that you get when you're standing on the top of a hill with only fields surrounding you, and how in that moment you feel so small that it humbles you, and allows you to see the earth from a new perspective. The aim of this body of work is to reconnect her viewer with nature through the feeling of ‘smallness' that you experience in the vastness of a landscape.
Since 2020, Carey’s curatorial practice has included research-led initiatives. Most recently, she co-organized a trial series of artist group critiques alongside Limerick curator Dylan Ryan from May to September 2024. These group crits brought together ten local artists every two weeks for peer-led discussions, allowing them to present their current projects and receive constructive feedback. The aim was to foster a stronger artist community and build confidence in discussing artistic practices. The trial program concluded with a group exhibition, produced by Carey Long and curated by Dylan Ryan.
As director of Spacecraft, she is committed to fostering inclusive and innovative programming, supporting diverse artistic practices, and strengthening community engagement and professional development within the arts in Limerick City.
