Laura O’Loughlin

Laura O’Loughlin is a multidisciplinary artist from Limerick City. Her work explores themes of connection through many lenses– be it cultural, political, interpersonal or environmental; she sometimes looks at connection and community with more than one of these themes in mind.

Laura is a process-driven artist, she leans on her skills acquired during her undergraduate degree in printmaking, as well as her love of working with words and paper, to allow for a varied body of work. As a result, her portfolio ranges from linocut and screen prints, cyanotype prints and animations to collages, poetry and paintings. Experimentation and play are often at the heart of her practice, and Laura believes that the process is as important as the outcome. This mindset allows for spur-of-the-moment creations and taking a different look at the leftovers from previous works to make new pieces, with approaches that the artist may not have used before.

Taking influence from art movements such as Dada, German expressionist cinema, absurdist humour and punk aesthetics, the work that Laura produces is usually tactile, and sometimes tongue-in-cheek, but she always leaves room to create tender works that resonate.

Laura has a degree in Print Contemporary Practice from Limerick School of Art and Design and has exhibited nationally and internationally.
